process of patintings.

Process.

After the first coat on the body, I then start to develop the second. For this I have to wait a few days so the oils a semi-dry but not fully dry. This is because it creates a rougher texture for the topcoat and creates layers on layers. to help the undercoat come through to the topcoat. Another wee time-lapse below.

Once the oils start to harden the next step is the topcoat and the blending of the bodies together through the arms or the hip. And then lastly the highlights. To really emphasize the bodies and to bring them out of the flat surface. The reason why I'm slightly distorting the bodies and twisting them together. Is that I want to create a slightly uncomfortable connection and feeling when these paintings are to be viewed. Relating to the idea of BDD - Body dysmorphia - of how some people living with this disorder have the uncomfortable feeling of looking at themselves in the mirror. Along with also connecting the bodies physically and mentally. To make them as one as we are all different but yet all the same.
