questioning
Body dysmorphia (BDD) (Clinic, 2019) – A mental
health disorder common with most people who constantly can’t stop thinking
about themselves as being perceived as defected or have major flaws with one’s
appearances. A minor flaw that appears or that this flaw can’t be seen by
others. They may feel ashamed, embarrassed, may avoid social events or
situations and feel anxious about one’s self (Clinic, 2019) .
Metamorphosis – The
term metamorphosis comes from the idea of morphing or transforming different
subjects into another and creating this shape-shifting form (Abrahams, 1998) and is relevant to my practice as I am
using metamorphism to blend and twist and connect the paintings of the nude
bodies together male and female.
warp/warped - bent or twisted, abnormally shaped or distorted - Represented in my work by the twisting of the bodies and distorting them together to create a metamorphic distortion of the bodies flowing together. To create an uncomfortable feeling to the viewers, to give the idea of people looking at their own bodies in the mirror and feeling as though they are uncomfortable to look at (BDD comes in).
Fragmented - partial, unfinished. In relation to my own work, the bodies are very fragmented and unfinished in a way to feel as though they are uncomfortable.
Mixed media - Mixed media is a term used for describing artworks that are
produced with the use of combining different materials and media (TATE, 2020) . This started around
1912, with “Cubist Collages” from artists such as Georges Braque and Pablo
Picasso. Art is therefore made from combing different things or essentially made
of anything (TATE, 2020) .
Using mixed media such as reflective surfaces say CD’s, Aluminium foil either
texture of flat, Glass, Glass bowels and water, etc… To create a warping effect
on the bodies I have depicted.
Perspective - your ow point of view or others point of view to that own perspective. Regarding my own work, due to
social community constrictions, such as New Zealand going into lockdown due to
the Covid-19 out-break. I am now having to create a new social experiment. This
consists of my models had to draw themselves naked and sending me through the
drawing so I can interpret their own personal perspective. Then painting/drawing
of my own interpretation of their bodies from their perspective.
