Art Theory, BVA313, week 3

Identifying Specific questions and centralizing it to our third year project.

This week we are identifying a specific question central to our third year project. requiring theoretical and practice based research. This contains key approaches/methodology, key aspect about audience, key theoretical terms and key theoretical components of question and value/art/craft/function.

  • Production (the production of the work.)
  • Reception (how it is being received.)
  • Authorship (where it has come from.)
  • Technologies (technique, how am I doing it.)
  • Active Documentation (interrogation of ideas and reflection on practice.)
  • Critical and Vigorous questioning.
  • Reflection and Parallel reflection of your ideas and practice.

Looking back at my mind map from last week ...
Centralized question:
How can I create analytical thinking through the process of art to help create a contemporary art movement?

Production: (The production of the work.)
Through the process of portraiture artwork with the mixture of experimental work of digital media and photography.

Reception: (How it is being received.)
Can take interest and to be invited to look through the window and to take notice of the process happening.

Authorship: (Where it has come from.)
Using previous movement to combine and form my own movement. Seen things that interest me to make it into a more contextualized and contemporary movement. To form a new movement from other movements.

Technologies: (Technique, how am I doing it.)
Looking back at the different movements, basing it onto my paintings then photographing it to put the painting into a digitized form.

  • Am going to build a body of resources to analyse and evaluate the material in regards of my own questioning.

Key terms:

  • Art movements.
  • Experimental.
  • Perceived.
  • Perception.
  • The relationship between painter and portrait.
  • Documentation photography.
  • Sub-conscious mind.
  • Analytical thinking
  • Inner persona.

Note: Analytical thinking is a component of critical thinking to form personality, ego, relationships etc... (Gustav Jung's theory of persona and personality of psychology.)

Homework:

  • 2 examples of theoretical text that can help answer my question.
  • Keep working on opening up my question to compact it.
  • Analyse and discuss ideas in both and discuss how they inform your question.
  • Produce 3 working drawings that propose practical studies to explore theoretical aspects of your question.
  • Prepare a brief statement to share with the group to explain your drawings.
